The Wood Leads. We Follow.

  • The woods we reach for most: White Oak (warm tan-brown, rays pop), Black Walnut (deep, luxurious dark brown), Cherry (warm reddish-brown, silky sheen), Hard Maple (soft amber, tight grain), Ash (athletic, modern grain), and Hickory (bold contrast, rustic character).

  • Red Oak, Soft Maple, Poplar, Birch, Beech, Alder, American Elm, Sycamore, American Mahogany, Teak, Holly, Yellow Birch, American Chestnut, and more.

  • Pecan, Butternut, Sassafras, Osage Orange, Black Locust, Mesquite, Honey Locust, Hackberry, Cottonwood, Aspen, and Quartersawn American Elm.

  • Douglas Fir, Southern Yellow Pine, Eastern White Pine, Hemlock, Cypress, Red Cedar, Spruce, and Larch.

  • 50+ USA-sourced species, milled in our Philadelphia-area shop. During your consultation we'll help you choose based on aesthetic, durability, movement, and budget — and walk you through milled vs. oiled samples.

Mainline CNC Woodworks builds in solid hardwood, every time. Every species we use is USA-sourced and chosen for how the wood will move, how the grain will read, and how the finish will land in the room it's going into — no veneered MDF dressed up as cabinetry. The visible surfaces are real wood, all the way through. Below: how we think about materials, and the 50+ species we mill and hand-finish in our Philadelphia-area shop.

Our Materials Philosophy

  • Wood isn't static. It moves — expands, contracts, and shifts with the season and the humidity in the room it lives in. We design around how wood behaves, not how a render looks: species chosen for movement and grain, joinery that earns its keep, machining where precision matters, and hand-finishing where the eye lives. We build in solid hardwood, every time — no veneered MDF dressed up as cabinetry. The visible surfaces are real wood, all the way through.

  • Every board reads differently milled versus oil-finished. Milled shows the raw, true color and grain; a hand-rubbed oil finish deepens the tone and makes the figure, rays, and contrast pop. We'll show you both for your chosen species during design.
